It is one of the most iconic songs of all time and is still the most requested wedding song but can you believe that Shania Twain’s massive hit single ‘You’re Still The One’ turns 20 today?
The classic love ballad crossed Twain over from country music sensation to mainstream superstar back in 1998 and ever since we have been singing the iconic lines to one of the greatest love songs ever released. The track has spanned generations with people who weren’t even born when it was originally dropped professing their love for the sentimental yet not mushy country/pop hit.
When it was released back in 1998 on January 27th it instantly became a crossover hit and charted at number 1 on the US Hot Country Chart, number 2 on the Hot 100 Billboard, number 10 on the UK charts, number 1 in Australia and entered in the top-ten in various countries including Twain’s native Canada where it peaked at number 2, Ireland, and Netherlands.
‘You’re Still The One’ helped make Shania Twain a household mainstream name, and the fact that it was lifted off the greatest selling album of all time in any genre by a female artist ‘Come On Over’ makes it even more of a classic.
The track has sold millions of copies around the world, selling over 2 million physical copies in the US alone. In fact the only reason it didn’t peak at number 1 on the Hot 100 Billboard was because stores sold out of the CD.
Today the single that is still a fan favourite turns 20 and Twain celebrated the anniversary on Twitter.
Fans will be able to witness Shania Twain singing the classic ‘You’re Still The One’ live when she tours the world later this year with her massive NOW Tour. Tickets for the eagerly anticipated shows are on sale now.
