Shania Twain: The A to Z guide to Canada's 'Queen of Country Pop'
August 28, 2015
“I think that the older I get, the more accepting I am,” admits Shania Twain, who celebrates her milestone 50th birthday on Aug. 28. The Canadian icon spoke to Hello! earlier this year about the special occasion, which she will celebrate quietly with her family, having just wrapped up the first leg of her Rock this Country tour on Aug. 23 in California.
To mark Shania’s 50th birthday, Hello! presents an A-Z roundup of fun facts and passions that have helped shape the singer into the admirable woman she is today.
The Timmins, Ont. native has big plans, having promised fans that she is determined to release new music before she blows out her candles again in 2016. “It’s going to be all out in my 50th year ... once the tour is over, I’m going to hit the studio and I’m going to make sure that it happens when I’m 50,” she tells us. And with the singer wrapping things up on the road on home soil in Kelowna on Oct. 27, Shania will have loads of time to make her dream a reality.
With each new chapter comes an opportunity for reflection, and the mother of one has acquired quite the collection of memories and accolades to look back on. With her loving husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, by her side, the "Come on Over" songstress galloped out of Las Vegas in December with a hugely successful $40-million, two-year residency in her saddle and wasted no time in hitting the road for her final farewell tour.
As great as it was to entertain fans in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Shania revealed to "Entertainment Tonight" that, “by the time that I got to the end of Vegas, I realized that that static environment, as exciting as it was, was no way to say goodbye.” She wanted her final run of live performances to be more personal, saying, “Going to the fans and bringing myself to them seemed the right way to do that.”
The tour, which has already grossed more than $40 million in sales according to Billboard, is yet another high in the down-to-earth singer’s illustrious career. From the moment Shania released her eponymous album in 1993, the small-town Canadian girl has made everlasting footprints in the landscapes of music and pop culture. Even though she has five GRAMMY awards on her mantel and has sold more than 70-million albums worldwide, Shania has always remained the same charismatic and personable performer that she was when she started her incredible journey so many years ago.
