Caesars Palace resident headliner Shania Twain welcomed fellow Canadian musician Avril Lavigne to her show Sunday night at the Colosseum.
It was Avril returning the favor, as Shania was at The Backstreet Boys and Avril concert Friday night at Axis in Planet Hollywood, where Avril served as the opening act to the legendary boyband. (Axis is home to Britney Spears’ resident show “Britney: Piece of Me.”)
According to an update posted May 31 at “Girlfriend” hitmaker Avril’s Facebook page, the 29-year-old Napanee, Ontario, native was performing the first of a two-night stand on a bill with BSB when “The Queen of Country Pop” popped in for a visit. The 48-year-old Windsor, Ontario, native had a night off from “Shania Twain: Still the One.”
The Canadian chanteuses got together after the show and hung out along with Lavigne’s husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. Both stars posted pictures of the get together on their Facebook and Twitter pages, with Shania posing for photographs with Avril, Chad and The Backstreet Boys.
Posting the photos to her Twitter account, Shania wrote, “Reuniting with Canadian friends Avril Lavigne and Chad backstage after Avril's concert at Planet Hollywood!” Avril tweeted back, “Thank you to the beautiful Shania Twain for coming to my show.”
The “Man, I Feel Like a Woman” hitmaker was an early influence on Avril’s style and was pivotal in her rise to stardom. In 1999, Avril won a radio contest to perform with Shania at the Corel Centre in Ottawa before an audience of 20,000 and joined Shania onstage to sing “What Made You Say That.”
Both stars will be busy with shows throughout this month. Avril continues her U.S. tour with The Backstreet Boys today in Albuquerque while Shania resumes her residency at the Colosseum with shows Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. For more details, go to AvrilLavigne.com and ShaniaTwain.com.
While in town, Avril and Chad partied with a large group of friends, including uber-manager Larry Rudolph (Britney’s manager) and Chad’s bandmates from Nickelback, at Creative Director David Furnish and Sir Elton John’s private VIP table on the upper level of Fizz champagne lounge. Also at Fizz, which is next door to the Colosseum, The Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson with his wife Kristin Willits.
