TORONTO - Airdates are set for a new documentary series featuring Canadian country-pop darling Shania Twain.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network says it will debut "Why Not? with Shania Twain" in the U.S. on May 8.

And Corus Entertainment says the series is scheduled to premiere on OWN in Canada on May 27.

OWN says the show follows the superstar singer as she "sets out on a tour of healing, sharing and rediscovering her voice" after travails in her personal life and career.

Her journey includes a trip to her birthplace of Timmins, Ont., with her sister, Carrie Ann, and a travelling adventure with her bandmates and closest confidants.

Along the way, she meets vocal doctors, coaches and people who've experienced hardships similar to the ones Twain has gone through.

Cameras also capture Twain in intimate one-on-one conversations with experts in the music industry, including Gladys Knight, Lionel Richie and David Foster.

"This journey is about learning — learning about myself, growing, coming to terms with a lot of things," Twain says in new a sneak peak video on the OWN website.

"I have lost my ability to express myself and my ability to sing. For some reason, I'm not comfortable singing in front of people anymore."

Twain also confesses in the video that the pressures of her career got to her and made her lose her confidence at a time when her marriage to her ex, Robert (Mutt) Lange, was crumbling.

"I was really getting quite obsessive about my own pain, my struggle and I just had to snap out of it."
